More than 3000 users have connected to the work of the II International Municipal Forum of the BRICS countries (IMF BRICS) in an online format. This was announced by the organizers of the forum, the main topic of which this year was the solution of global challenges and threats, primarily the COVID-19 pandemic, at the local municipal level.
“As part of the business program, 20 videoconferences were held, including 18 profile sessions, a plenary meeting and a signing ceremony. More than 170 speakers and speakers took part in the Forum. In just two days of the Forum, more than 3000 online listeners have connected to it,” says in the message.
The main topic of discussion on the first day of the forum was the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection and the challenges associated with it. In their speeches, the representatives of the five also noted the desire to establish closer cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals, scientific research and exchange of experience in the fight against COVID-19.
The speech of the director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Pasteur, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Areg Totolyan, who spoke about the study of population immunity to the new coronavirus infection, aroused great interest. He noted that out of 26 regions of Russia where the research was conducted, this indicator increased in 14 subjects in the fall. A decrease in the herd immunity level was observed in four regions. According to the scientist, the situation with population immunity in the country is “mosaic”, its level in the regions varies from 4.3% to 50.2%. “Even in neighboring regions, the indicators may differ significantly – due to different epidemiological conditions and various restrictive measures,” he said. The scientists plan to start the third stage of the study in late November – early December.
The development of domestic tourism was discussed, which is relevant for almost all BRICS countries in light of the reduction in external tourist flow. One of the interesting cases was shared by representatives of the Murmansk region, who spoke about the development of industrial tourism in the region. Among the objects that have already become places of attraction in the Arctic are the Kovdor Mining and Processing Plant, the Kola Territory Northern Berries Processing Plant, Olkon (Olenegorsk Mining and Processing Plant), and the Kola Nuclear Power Plant.
Deputy General Director for Development of JSC Rusatom Infrastructure Solutions (part of Rosatom) Alexei Golubev spoke about how digital services can improve the life of cities. In particular, involve residents in urban development issues, support entrepreneurship and optimize urban governance processes.
An agreement on cooperation between the cities of Chelyabinsk (Russia) and Guarulhos (Brazil) was signed in the online format within the framework of the forum. The organizing committee of the MMF signed a cooperation agreement with the China Business Center, and received preliminary confirmation of the signing of an agreement with the Confederation of Indian Industry.
The II International Municipal Forum of the BRICS countries was held in St. Petersburg on November 5 and 6. The forum was held in the BRICS Plus format, in addition to the “five” countries, speakers and listeners from Italy, Spain, Argentina, Mali, Peru, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Nigeria, Mongolia, Mexico, Egypt, Germany, Estonia, Finland took part in the BRICS IMF , Denmark, Austria, a total of 64 states, as well as 70 Russian regions. The Forum is being held in St. Petersburg for the second time, and this year the event is included in the calendar of the Russian Federation’s chairmanship in the interstate BRICS association.
