This decision was made due to the difficult epidemiological situation.

Mass events will not be held in the capital on New Year’s holidays. Sergei Sobyanin said this in an interview with Channel One.

“The New Year is still far away, more than a month and a half, but nevertheless, mass events will not be held in this situation. We decided to ban mass cultural events, including major Christmas and New Year events, so as not to mislead anyone, ”said the Moscow Mayor.

He recalled that the New Year is mainly a family holiday and in Russia there is a tradition to celebrate it at home, with relatives and friends.

The decision to cancel mass events was made in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. According to Sergei Sobyanin, an increase in the incidence of COVID-19 has been observed in the capital for more than a week. This increases the load on the bed network and the entire medical system. The situation is also complicated by the possibility of the development of autumn diseases (ARVI and influenza), which were almost absent in the spring.

“We must be one step ahead and predict what will happen tomorrow, in a week, in two weeks, at least in three,” said the Moscow Mayor.

At the same time, when introducing restrictive measures, the situation in the world is also taken into account.

“We must carefully watch what is happening in other countries. And we see that in European, and not only in European countries, there is a huge dynamics of growth of COVID-19, a huge dynamics of the load on the entire medical system. And many countries generally impose curfews, states of emergency, full lockouts, and so on. Moreover, this dynamics does not stop, “Sergei Sobyanin emphasized.

Nevertheless, the situation in the capital is being controlled. First of all, we are talking about the healthcare system, which copes with the flow of patients.

“Moreover, the volume of planned and emergency assistance is not less, and even slightly more than in previous years for the same month. The same applies to the work of polyclinics. In covid hospitals, we have an almost 50 percent safety margin. So the system is working steadily today, ”added the Mayor of Moscow.
