On November 10, in the city of Svobodny, Amur Region, the grand opening of the monument to the Hero of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Maslov, a graduate of the Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School (DVOKU), who died during the hostilities in August 2011 in the Republic of Dagestan, took place.

The solemn event was attended by Ivan Maslov’s parents, relatives, former classmates, residents of the city, as well as colleagues from the Typhoon special purpose unit, in which Ivan Maslov was doing military service.

The memorial was erected opposite the gymnasium number 9 of the city of Svobodny, where Ivan Maslov studied. After graduating from high school, he entered the DVOKU, which he graduated in 2000 with honors.

In June 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Maslov was sent on a business trip to the Republic of Dagestan. On August 17, units of the Typhoon special-purpose detachment searched for an armed bandit group in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan. After its discovery, covering comrades in arms, Ivan Maslov was seriously wounded in the temple, but continued to fire and control the unit Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Maslov died on the battlefield. His clear and loyal leadership helped save the lives of the unit’s soldiers.

By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of January 9, 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Maslov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for personal courage, bravery and heroism displayed in the performance of military duty in conditions fraught with risk to life.
