The meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held via videoconference.
During the meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Vietnamese Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation – Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and Vice Prime Minister of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Chinh Dinh Dung, a wide range of issues on the development of cooperation between the two countries in trade and economic , scientific and technological spheres, industrial production, in the field of transport, communications and telecommunications, as well as preparations for the next, 23rd meeting of the IGC in Russia.
In his welcoming speech, Dmitry Chernyshenko expressed condolences in connection with the casualties and destruction from the recent typhoon in Vietnam, wishing a speedy recovery to the affected regions of the country.
The parties noted a significant increase in trade and economic cooperation between the two states, despite the difficult situation with the pandemic in the world. Following the results of eight months of this year, bilateral trade grew by 12.5% compared to the same period last year.
The meeting noted Russia’s interest in setting up joint car assembly enterprises in Vietnam, which would make it possible to organize a production hub for the export of cars to ASEAN countries. In the field of agriculture, it was proposed to consider the possibility of expanding access to Russian livestock products, increasing the supply of wheat to Vietnam, as well as exporting Russian environmentally friendly nitrogen-phosphorus fertilizers. Dmitry Chernyshenko expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese side for the approval of certificates for the export of Russian pork and fish and the operational certification of Russian meat processing companies.
Vice Premier of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Chinh Dinh Dung noted the long-term effective cooperation between the two countries and praised the actions of the Russian Government, headed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, to combat the spread of the new coronavirus infection and to develop a vaccine as soon as possible.
Chinh Dinh Dung announced the interest of the Vietnamese side in expanding the supply of traditional goods to the Russian market – agricultural products, seafood, light industry products. He also stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in the energy sector and the implementation of promising investment projects in various sectors of the economy.
Noting Russia’s leadership in the digitalization of tax administration, Dmitry Chernyshenko proposed to intensify interaction on the development of e-government in Vietnam, including initiating the exchange of best practices in this area.
Following the discussion, the parties agreed to synchronize their watches on the implementation of the decisions made at the last meeting of the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission, and to prepare specific proposals for the next meeting scheduled for the first half of 2021 in Russia.
