The Generation Equality Forum is a global gathering for gender equality that seeks to celebrate the power of women’s rights activism, feminist solidarity and youth leadership to achieve transformative change.
The Forum is scheduled to take place during the first half of 2021 (dates to be announced), kicking off in Mexico City and culminating in Paris.
The Generation Equality Forum is convened by UN Women and co-chaired by France and Mexico, with the close partnership of civil society. It aims to be a global public conversation for urgent action and accountability for gender equality. The Forum has three specific objectives:
- preparation of Action Coalitions;
- development of a multilateral feminist strategy to propose and promote accelerated changes towards gender equality in the coming years; and
- formation of a multilateral alliance of countries to promote the gender equality agenda.
The kickoff event in Mexico City will include a series of meetings that will address the structural and systemic obstacles that prevent achieving true gender equality and guaranteeing the exercise of the human rights of women and girls globally.
