On November 10, 2020, employees of the Kurgan fire and rescue garrison worked out techniques and methods of extinguishing a fire of an increased rank at the infrastructure facility of the South Ural Railway.

According to the plan of the exercises, at 10 o’clock in the morning from the dispatcher of the railway station in the city of Kurgan, information was received about the burning of a log warehouse (railroad warehouse) built in 1913, which contained about 5 tons of ammonium nitrate intended for use in agriculture.

Firefighting and rescue units and life support services quickly arrived at the scene of the emergency, and a fire train moved forward to reinforce it. The participants in the exercises were faced with a difficult task – to prevent the explosion and spread of the poisonous cloud over a large area and completely extinguish the fire. Fire brigade units, including in insulating gas masks, and also wearing heat-resistant chemical protection suits, treated the burning surface with falling jets of water in order to reduce the thermal effect on an emergency chemically hazardous substance.

Long-distance trunk lines were laid to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water, as the fire train was stopped outside the area of potential contamination.

Thanks to the competent organization of interagency interaction, the tasks were successfully completed. In total, 80 people and 18 pieces of equipment took part in the exercises.
