Hamed Haddadi contributed a triple-double to help the Sichuan Blue Whales edge the Shanxi Loongs 108-103 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Tuesday.
Haddadi had a team-high 32 points plus 17 rebounds and 13 assists while Jamaal Franklin had 47 points and 10 assists.
After a close start to the game, Yan Pengfei’s eight points helped Shanxi establish a 22-18 lead in the first quarter. Sichuan tried hard to catch up and turned the tide by the end of the first half, with Haddadi’s two free throws contributing to a 49-48 lead.
Shanxi countered in the third quarter, after Franklin hit a 3-pointer, they led by 76-75 going into the last quarter. Sichuan launched a 15-4 run in the middle of the fourth quarter to regain an eight-point lead, and carried it to the end of the game.
“We had a plan for how to defend against Shanxi, we limited Franklin well and won 20 rebounds tonight,” Sichuan head coach Zhou Jinli said. “My players kept fighting to the end, I was satisfied with their performance.”
