09.11.2020 In anticipation of the complete redevelopment of the section, the maximum authorized speed will be lowered from Thursday 12 November 2020 to 50 km / h over the 2.2 kilometers of cantonal road 5 going from the roundabout of Gouttes-d’Or, in Neuchâtel, to that of Trois-Sources and on Avenue des Pâquiers, in Saint-Blaise. This implementation of federal legislation concerning the general local speed limit aims to reduce road noise and increase user safety on this road frequented daily by nearly 15,000 vehicles and on which many arrive. riparian access. The maximum authorized speed, so far set at 60 km / h, will be lowered from Thursday, November 12, 2020 to 50 km / h over the 2.2 kilometers of the section of cantonal road 5 extending between the Gouttes-d roundabout ‘However, in Neuchâtel, and that of Trois-Sources, in Saint-Blaise. The same reduction is applied to avenue des Pâquiers in Saint-Blaise. This shared decision by the cantonal and communal authorities concerned aims to reduce road noise and increase road safety on this road frequented daily by nearly 15,000 vehicles and to which many local accesses lead. The limitation to 60 km / h in force for many years was an exception to the Federal Ordinance on Road Signs (OSR) for this section located in a locality, where the speed of movement must in principle be set at 50 km / h . The objective then was to increase the capacity of this main road axis, the only major transit axis north of Lake Neuchâtel. Thanks to the N5 motorway, whose sanitation works are almost completed and its many junctions, and taking into account the urban development developments that have taken place over the last twenty years, the situation has changed a lot and this exception to the general speed limit in the locality no longer meets the criteria defined in federal legislation, particularly in terms of safety and environmental protection. A complete redevelopment of this road section and its remediation of road noise, through construction work, will be implemented in the coming years, which will aim in particular to promote mobility alternatives to the private car, i.e. public transport and soft mobility. The road infrastructure will be more in line with the urbanization of this sector and will better meet the expectations of different users. BodyRight EDITOR’S NOTE: This article is a translation.
