09.11.2020 As of October 31, the number of job seekers (-15) and unemployed (-124) fell to 6,868 and 4,437 people respectively. The cantonal unemployment rate fell slightly (-0.1 pt) to 4.8%. In French-speaking Switzerland, the unemployment rate remains stable at 4.4%. Stability also prevails at the national level with an unemployment rate of 3.2%. Depending on the age categories, the evolution is contrasted. In fact, a decrease in the number of unemployed is observed for the age groups of 15-24 years (-50) as well as for the age group of 25-49 years with a decrease of 102 people. On the contrary, for people over 51 an increase (+28) should be noted. Regarding the economic sectors, the strongest monthly decreases in the number of unemployed concern wholesale trade and automobile repair (-31), construction (-23) and other manufacturing activities (-22). A decrease in the number of unemployed can also be noted in the sectors of medico-social accommodation (-19), retail trade (-16) as well as in activities for human health and social action (-15 ). Conversely, the hotel and restaurant sector shows the most marked increase in the number of unemployed (+25). This lull on the unemployment front will be short-lived. Indeed, the measures taken to stem the second wave of the coronavirus, in particular the closure of certain economic sectors, and the onset of winter which will slow down activities in the construction sector, will inevitably impact the unemployment rate in the coming months. .
