Health Minister the Honorable Patty Hajdu today highlighted the establishment of the Universal Broadband Fund, a $ 1.75 billion investment aimed at connecting Canadians across the country to high speed internet services. The government first introduced the Fund as a $ 1 billion program in Budget 2019. It is now providing additional funding to advance large-scale, high-impact projects that will result the formation of partnerships, notably with the Canada Infrastructure Bank as part of its broadband initiative. The program also includes a $ 150 million quick-start component with a fast-track application process to allow immediate triggering of projects ready for construction. The Fund will also allocate $ 50 million of its total budget to Internet mobility projects that will primarily benefit Indigenous peoples. As a result of this investment, 98% of Canadians will have access to high-speed Internet services by 2026, allowing them to participate more fully in the digital economy.
