The Military Scientific Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is hosting a book exhibition “The strength of Russia is in the unity of peoples” dedicated to the Day of National Unity, which is celebrated on November 4 to commemorate the events of 1612: the liberation of Moscow from Polish invaders by the people’s militia led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky.

Historically, this holiday is associated with the end of the Time of Troubles in Russia in the 17th century.

The exhibition presents books by prominent Russian historians V.O. Klyuchevsky, D.P. Buturlin, R.I. Kostomarov, S.F. Platonov, which are dedicated to dramatic events that are associated with a protracted dynastic crisis that arose in the Russian state after death

in 1598 the last tsar of the Rurik family Fyodor Ioanovich. Based on a wide range of sources, the authors investigate in detail how in the struggle for the independence of the Russian state a nationwide social movement emerged, which ended in the victory of patriotic forces.

The Time of Troubles left many traces in the form of private correspondence and memoirs, acts, legends, political pamphlets. All this is presented in the book “Monuments of the History of the Time of Troubles” edited by A.I. Yakovleva.

A number of books are devoted to the biography of heroes and antiheroes of that time: Boris Godunov, False Dmitry I, Vasily Shuisky, Dmitry Pozharsky, Kuzma Minin. Authentic portraits of them are presented.

Exhibition of books and documentary film “Russian Troubles. Secrets of the Time of Troubles “, will help readers understand the causes of the Time of Troubles and how Russia managed to get out of this state crisis.

The exhibition will run until November 16.
