The large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” completed the tasks of a long-range cruise in the Mediterranean Sea and entered the Atlantic Ocean. Today the battleship, accompanied by the medium sea tanker “Akademik Pashin” and the rescue tugboat “Altai”, passed the Strait of Gibraltar.

In the Atlantic Ocean, the VPK “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” will work out a number of combat training tasks and will search for submarines using the Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopter.

Before leaving the Mediterranean Sea, the ship worked out exercises on the search for a submarine, on air defense, as well as conducting a naval battle with a mock enemy’s surface ship and firing artillery and anti-aircraft missile systems at air and sea targets.

The BPK “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” set out on a cruise from the main base of the Northern Fleet – Severomorsk more than 4 months ago. He took part in the Main Naval Parade in Kronstadt, in some episodes of the Russian Navy exercise “Ocean Shield”. Since August, the ship has been operating in the Mediterranean.

During the long voyage, the sailors of the VPK “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” have covered more than 23 thousand nautical miles, made business calls to Algeria, Greece, Cyprus and Syria.

The cruise takes place under the flag of the Chief of Staff of the Northern Fleet’s antisubmarine ships formation, Captain 1st Rank Stanislav Varik.
