Three first-half goals from Memovic, Ngoc Quang and Van Toan helped HAGL taste victory for the first time in phase two of the season and settle for seventh place overall, three points clear of their opponents.
Highly determined to clinch a consolation victory on the last matchday, HAGL played offensively right from the off, with the smooth coordination between midfielder foursome Ngoc Quang, Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh and Thanh Hau enabling them to dominate possession and create an array of scoring opportunities.
The home side opened their account in the 16th minute as Damir Memovic headed home from close range to open the scoring.
Inspired by the opener, HAGL needed only another 17 minutes to make it 3-0, with Ngoc Quang and Van Toan getting on the scoreboard.
From the 59th minute, HAGL had to play with 10 men when central back Trong Sang was sent off due to his foul on Mansary. However, Hong Linh Ha Tinh could not make their numerical advantage count sufficiently to spur a successful comeback.
With the defeat, Pham Minh Duc’s troops wrapped up the season in bottom place among the eight title contenders in the second phase. Nonetheless, it is not as disappointing as relegation would have been in their debut V.League 1 season and as such could be considered a success for the newbies. For HAGL, to some extent, their first victory after six straight losses helped them end the season in a relatively upbeat manner.
Later today (November 8), leaders Viettel FC, who are two points clear, will play away to third-place Saigon FC, while title holders Hanoi FC clash with Quang Ninh Coal. To defend their V.League 1 crown, Hanoi FC have to bag the full three points against Quang Ninh, while hoping Viettel only manage a draw, or lose, against Saigon FC.
