What: I-44 OPEN to normal traffic pattern, two lanes of traffic in each direction, near Sarcoxie (Mile Marker 29) and near Halltown (Mile Marker 56)

When: As of 4 p.m., Friday, November 6

Details: Contractor crews returned the final two segments of I-44 to its normal traffic pattern – two lanes of traffic in each direction, near Sarcoxie (Mile Marker 29) and Halltown (Mile Marker 56).

Drivers may experience occasional lane closings for a time while the contractor wraps up some minor work and clean up.

Project Background:

  • I-44 Project Bridge Rebuild replaced or rehabilitated a total of 19 bridges on I-44 between Sarcoxie and Halltown
  • Some bridges were original to the construction of I-44 in the 1960s and were deteriorating and needed replacement or rehabilitation
  • Total project cost: $36 million
  • Overall completion date: Dec. 15, 2021. However, the contractor set a goal to have all major bridge work complete by the end of 2020. Today’s opening of all lanes to normal traffic is six weeks ahead of that goal.
