Headline: The ICC finds a “reasonable basis” to believe that serious crimes were committed in Venezuela, but has not opened an investigation yet

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) met this Wednesday with a high-level delegation from Venezuela to discuss the situation of two open preliminary examinations with respect to the South American country. The first for alleged crimes committed since April 2017 in the context of demonstrations and political disturbances, and the second for crimes against humanity allegedly perpetrated in Venezuelan territory since February 12, 2014.
