New age report highlights the potential of digitization for the elderly
What contribution can digitization and technology make to a good life in old age? This is examined by the “Eighth Age Report of the Federal Government”, which is now being discussed in the Bundestag.
Digital household emergency calls
The report emphasizes that the range of digital applications for improving health care and care in old age is enormous. Digital home emergency call systems allow senior citizens, for example, to stay in their own home, even if their health is no longer right. Vacuum robots can be used for housework, just like lawn mowers that help with gardening.
Health apps play a very important role – and not just when it comes to Covid-19 containment. There are already numerous smartphone applications that remind people to take drugs regularly or that help document blood sugar levels. The great role communication technologies can play for older people was also shown by the corona pandemic: stay to protect against the virus many senior citizens continue to be at home. Thanks to the telephone and digital media, the elderly could also stay in touch with friends and family.
