You can make an appointment. – Mr President of the Bundestag! Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! Dear Colleagues! Is closing restaurants, cinemas and sports clubs the right decision? Many politicians, citizens and especially those affected have asked themselves this question. If you ask me about it, my answer is: yes, it is the right decision.
We have all been watching the development of the corona case numbers and it was clear to everyone that something had to happen. It is imperative that we reduce contacts to an absolute minimum to protect those who are most at risk from the virus. After all, this is 30 percent of the population.
Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki:
Madam, would you allow a question from Mr Dehm, Die Linke parliamentary group?
Kerstin Vieregge (CDU / CSU):
No thanks. – Ladies and gentlemen, since 75 percent of new infections are no longer traceable and traceable, so we can no longer say with certainty where and when someone was infected and who could be affected, as the number of patients in the intensive care units increases has tripled to over 2000 in the last two weeks and is likely to continue to rise, we have to act with determination, judgment and considerations.
(Applause from members of the CDU / CSU)
In my opinion, this is exactly what the Federal Government has done together with the heads of government of the Länder.
The closings and restrictions for restaurateurs, cultural institutions and associations are a tough cut and a great challenge for many of those affected; we are all aware of that. The frustration and despair about the measures run deep, especially since many entrepreneurs, thanks to great commitment, high investments and innovative ideas, have created a corona practice that enables operation with low numbers of infected people. We will appreciate these measures again in the coming weeks when the number of cases has stabilized.
It is precisely for this reason that the companies concerned, the self-employed as well as the associations are financially compensated and supported. 10 billion euros are planned for this. 75 percent of sales in November of the previous year are to be reimbursed. And this applies not only to the directly affected companies, but also to the indirectly affected companies, which generate a large part of their sales with the affected companies. Restaurants in particular have the opportunity to generate additional income through pick-up and delivery services, and these are not counted towards the 75 percent.
(Dr. Marcel Klinge [FDP]: They still have to go further with such a business model!)
We will help not only comprehensively, but also quickly. The first aid should be paid in advance by the end of the month. In this way we ensure liquidity in the companies concerned. No other country reacts so quickly.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU)
I consider the entire procedure of the federal government to be good, well thought-out and effective. It is coordinated with science and takes into account the concerns of many. The focus is on protecting life and health, continuing to provide education for our children and strengthening the economy in the long term. Dear colleagues of the FDP, that should also be in your interest.
(Applause from members of the CDU / CSU)
I cannot find any added value for the catering industry in the FDP’s proposal. Many of the requirements listed have already been implemented promptly through the measures of the federal government. In the application you only concentrate on the catering trade. But we have many other affected industries and areas in mind. The proposal is too narrow, outdated and does not show any clear improvements that have not already been discussed.
Dear colleagues, are we doing the right thing with the restrictions? If we look at how the corona situation in Germany compares to our neighboring countries in the EU, we see, I mean, that we have implemented very, very much right things in the last few months and that they have secured jobs, strengthened economic growth and made many lives were protected. So: yes, we’re doing the right thing.
I would like to cite my speech with a quote from the former referee Dr. Complete Markus Merk. He said:
Doing everything right is impossible. To be fair even more! But the will to do so must be recognizable in every situation, in your actions and actions.
And that is given here.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU and members of the SPD)
