Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) on Tuesday announced USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal aid totaling $6.8 million for the city of Maquoketa and the city of Wyoming to improve and ensure safe water and sanitary wastewater disposal.

The combination of federal grants and loans will fund the replacement of aging, undersized and corroded water mains in both cities.

The awards are as follows:

  • Maquoketa: $6.2 million loan to replace the water main along the city’s Platt Street Corridor and upgrade stormwater catch basins. An estimated 6,136 people will benefit from the project.
  • Wyoming: $334,000 loan and $226,000 grant to replace city water mains. The city will contribute an additional $51,000 to the project, which will benefit an estimated 515 people.

“Upgrading and improving critical infrastructure improves the quality of life for Iowans and prepares our cities and towns for new economic growth,” Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer said. “USDA grants and loans like these are critical to the health and wellbeing of Iowa’s cities, towns and rural places.”
