27.10.2020 The Council of State renews its confidence in the current rector of the University of Neuchâtel. He decided to reappoint Mr. Kilian Stoffel as head of the institution for a new four-year term. Appointed in March 2016, the latter implemented the major institutional reforms decided by the Authorities. This first assessment, completed by successes at the academic and research levels, is unanimously welcomed by the Assembly and the University Council. The Council of State is pleased to note that many major challenges have been taken up by the University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) during the first term of its rector, Mr. Kilian Stoffel. Appointed in March 2016 at the head of the Neuchâtel institution, the latter has thus implemented the ambitious institutional reforms as well as the mandate of objectives contained in the new cantonal law on the University (LUNE). Entered into force on January 1, 2017, the LUNE reinforces the autonomy of UniNE by endowing it with unprecedented governance with new bodies and by instituting innovative management mechanisms. During his first mandate, Mr. Kilian Stoffel, with the support of the new rectorate, notably enabled the creation of new training programs: Master in innovation, Master in general management for non-economists, Bachelors in economics or management and sport as well as Master in historical sciences and the launch of the UniHub project, the new building on the Jeunes-Rives area that will become the center of the university campus. It has also worked to strengthen the research carried out within the Neuchâtel alma mater, in particular by ensuring the sustainability of the National Pole of Excellence on migration, by obtaining European funding, and by allowing the participation of the UniNE to the European Program on Quantum Technologies. It is therefore without hesitation that the Council of State, like the Assembly and the University Council, renews its confidence in Mr. Kilian Stoffel and that it decided, at its meeting of October 21, 2020, to appoint to the post of rector of the University of Neuchâtel for a further period of four years. He thanks him for his unwavering commitment and wishes him every success in the challenges he faces over the next few years, particularly in the areas of sustainability and digitization.
