Mister President! Ladies and gentlemen! The parliamentary calendar provides – as it happened – that today we will deal with an application from the AfD from the area of ”domestic policy” with references to the area of ”labor and social affairs”; on Friday in plenary a motion from the area of finance is on the agenda. Friday is about the fiscal consequences of immigration; today it is about the immigration of skilled workers. On Friday, the AfD’s argument is: We don’t want foreigners because they don’t pay taxes. – Today the AfD’s argument is: We don’t want foreigners because they pay taxes. – That only shows one thing: you don’t need an argument. With you, hatred and agitation against foreigners is part of your instinctual structure.
(Laughter from Deputy Dr. Alexander Gauland [AfD])
That is why every speech you give here is a monument to your wickedness.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU, the SPD, the FDP, the LEFT and the BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN)
“Domestic workers first”, that is how you called the whole thing, and your followers already know how that should be understood – so do we. Yes, the corona epidemic has led to an increase in the unemployed and short-time work. And yet it is correct: in the long term we will continue to need skilled workers in certain shortage occupations. When I say “long term” I don’t mean the next 1000 years, but the next 20 or 30 years. We need these forces because it is foreseeable that it will not be possible to recruit them from the domestic and European labor market. We need these forces because they unleash potential for growth in the German economy and thus strengthen our export strength. But we also need them in order to be able to cover the foreseeable high demand for nursing staff, for example.
Perhaps – now I look at the applicant group – one or the other of you will be grateful to be looked after by a hardworking nurse who knows nothing about your disgusting attitude and only sees you as the needy, needy person.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU, the SPD and the BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN as well as from members of the FDP and the LEFT)
Truly, ladies and gentlemen from the AfD, even if it comes from abroad, it would be closer to the idea of human dignity and Christian Caritas than you will ever have been.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU)
Almost a year ago, the “autumn report” by the Institute of German Economics found that the areas of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology alone are missing 263,000 employees. They will also be missing when the corona pandemic is over. Nobody believes that unemployed people can simply be retrained to become specialists in MINT areas. No, here we are dependent on immigration in the interests of our jobs and our economy.
Many of these specialists come from Asian countries, and yet they see with concern how the AfD’s goings-on heat up the mood and how xenophobic slogans find their secret support. And maybe they think twice about wanting to work in a country where a riot-oriented minority with parliamentary representation judges people based on their origins and not on the common future that they want to shape.
(Dr. Harald Weyel [AfD]: What an agitator!)
They consider whether they want to bring their families to a country in which a vocal minority says to them: “You are not welcome”, in a country where attacks against people who appear strange are the order of the day.
So I say: worse than the lack of skilled workers is the xenophobia
(Sebastian Munzenmaier [AfD]: Honestly?)
that is stoked by the right side of the house. It is they who are damaging the German economy.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU, the SPD and the LEFT as well as from members of the FDP and the BÜNDNISSES 90 / DIE GRÜNEN)
It is also they who damage the international opportunities of our economy. In my opinion, they are currently the greatest obstacle to investment in Germany.
(Laughter at the AfD)
Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, for me an economic upswing includes a clear rejection of right-wing and xenophobic ideas,
(Dr. Harald Weyel [AfD]: And left one!)
a rejection of the violent thugs and their parliamentary henchmen and above all one thing: Get out of parliament with this troop!
(Applause from the CDU / CSU, the SPD, the FDP, the LEFT and the BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN – Laughter of Deputy Dr. Alexander Gauland [AfD] – Dr. Harald Weyel [AfD]: You are the agitator from Service! – Dr. Alexander Gauland [AfD]: And so what should we call “dear colleagues”!
