The Uri Building Department is renewing the state archive and the cantonal library. In a first step, an underground connection between the buildings at Bahnhofstrasse 11 and Bahnhofstrasse 13 will be built. In the second and third stages, the renovation work on and in the state archive and the cantonal library will take place.

The premises of the State Archives and the Cantonal Library at Bahnhofstrasse 13 in Altdorf are being completely renovated. The historical documents stored in the building need more space. The Uri district administrator is of the same opinion and at the session on May 18, 2020 approved the construction project worth CHF 4.1 million.

In the first construction phase, work on the underground connection between the State Archives and the cantonal library (Bahnhofstrasse 13) will start on November 2, 2020 and will last until February 2021. In the second and third stages, the renovation work on Bahnhofstrasse 13 will be carried out with ongoing operations. The seven parking spaces in the blue zone on Bahnhofstrasse will be closed during the construction phase. Normal opening times apply during the renovation work. However, individual closing days will be necessary for moving work. The opening times of the canton library during the final construction phase will be communicated at a later date. All relevant information will be published on the websites of both institutions in good time (canton library: and State Archives: The construction work is expected to be completed by July 2021.
