Almost 55 thousand people of the older generation attend online classes in information technology, foreign languages, gymnastics and other areas of the Moscow Longevity project, as well as communicate online in hobby clubs of My Social Center.
On October 28, Russia celebrates Grandparents Day. This year, due to the difficult epidemiological situation, all residents of Moscow over 65 are recommended to stay at home. At the same time, the city does everything possible to make their leisure time active and interesting.
Modern metropolitan pensioners are active people who make full use of city online services. She told about how online leisure for the older generation is organized today Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.
“We understand that today it is important not only to ensure that people over 65 continue to be in self-isolation, but also to provide them with leisure in such a way that they continue to live their usual life. Every resident of the capital, who is now at risk and is at home, must understand that he continues to be a part of the city, in which there are opportunities for an interesting and active pastime. That is why we promptly responded to the current situation and transferred a large number of activities for elderly Muscovites to the online format. So, we offer more than 30 directions in the Moscow Longevity project, and within the My Social Center project more than 130 interest clubs have been organized. Thanks to this, almost 55 thousand of the older generation of Moscow residents continue to communicate online, learn new things and support each other, ”she said.
In addition, on the initiative of the activists of “My Social Center”, the project “Tales to Grandchildren” was launched. Its main goal is to overcome social isolation among the older generation, orphans and other wards of social protection. Until the end of the year, every Muscovite of “silver age” has the opportunity to record a video story for their grandchildren, orphans and children in difficult life situations. The first editions are already available on YouTube channel Department of Labor and Social Protection of Population… And to become a participant in the project and record your own video story, you just need to call any of “My social centers”.
Now the city club spaces “My Social Center” temporarily restricted offline leisure activities for visitors. At the same time, almost all associations will continue to operate online. Today, members of 134 club associations continue to communicate and lead an active lifestyle online through popular instant messengers.
Online classes in the Moscow Longevity project began in March this year to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. The distance learning format turned out to be in demand by older Muscovites and is now actively developing.
On October 1, a new season started in the project. More than 30 types of directions are available for participants: information technology, foreign languages, gymnastics, drawing, singing, theater workshops, arts and crafts, dancing and much more. Also two new directions were opened – “Literary workshop” and “Online excursions”.
More than 50 thousand project participants have already joined online classes using modern communication platforms. You can connect to the lessons both from a stationary computer and from a smartphone. If necessary, the teachers and curators of the project will help you download the necessary programs and connect to online lessons. Older Muscovites can study in several areas. Gerontologists recommend choosing at least one sports, educational and creative activity at the same time.
You can now become a participant and sign up for the Moscow Longevity project remotely. You can find out the schedule and register for participation in the lesson by calling your territorial social service center. Map and phone numbers, as well as the schedule of online classes on website project.
