Dear Texans,

It’s crucial for the growth of our nation that we ensure each student has access to high-quality broadband. That’s why I introduced the Eliminate the Digital Divide Act in order to empower states like Texas to utilize broadband networks that best fit the needs of our rural communities.

Yesterday, I was joined by school officials, mayors and county judges from Coryell, Bell and Lampasas Counties highlighting the urgency of providing greater access to reliable internet for Texans in our communities.

Broadband allows students to receive crucial learning resources that would otherwise not be available, and it has become central to education during the pandemic. It’s also a critical tool for every industry to remain connected. From our small businesses that depend on it to function and grow as they keep up with an ever-changing landscape, to the health care delivery through telehealth services, which are now more important than ever in order to stop the spread of the virus and help treat those who are sick.

And broadband is vitally important to economic development. It is impossible to invest in new infrastructure, like mapping out roads and building new bridges, without fast, high-quality internet. As the dependence of digital communication increases in almost every aspect of our lives, we cannot leave millions of Texans in the dark without internet access. It is crucial that we pass this legislation to begin closing a chasm that has divided our nation for far too long.

Take a look at this week in the 25th District:

I’m deeply humbled to receive this award from my friend Eddie Bell, State President of the Korean War Veterans Association. We will NEVER forget the service of these heroes and the sacrifices they made on behalf of our nation. May their stories and legacies live on forever.

Thank you to our Copperas Cove first responders for serving our TX-25 community! I’ll always proudly support our firefighters and police officers, and will continue fighting on their behalf in Congress.

Great to join local officials, and business and educational leaders from Central Texas to discuss what our TX-25 community needs in the next COVID-19 relief package and how we can partner together to support our Fort Hood community.

It was great to join Texans in Bosque County for a forum on the path forward during COVID-19 and my efforts to expand reliable, high quality broadband access to our TX-25 rural communities.

I joined Hillsboro small business owners to discuss the urgency of greater relief during COVID-19. While we’ve made great progress injecting capital into Main Street, we must provide further targeted aid so our economy can rebound quickly.

It was an honor to join Joshua Navy Junior ROTC’s annual ball this week. Our nation’s future is brighter because of these young people exemplifying integrity and honor in their communities, and stepping up to inspire the next generation of leaders in America.

I was humbled to thank our Vietnam Veterans in Johnson County for their sacrifice and service. These patriots selflessly and courageously defended our nation despite never receiving the homecoming they so deeply deserved. On behalf of the 25th District, it was an honor to welcome them home.

It was an honor to join the III Corps for yesterday’s uncasing ceremony. It’s my highest privilege to represent these men and women who faithfully serve our nation.

I also had the privilege of meeting with Lt. Gen. Pat White to discuss ongoing construction projects for barracks, motor pools and family housing; the deliberate actions unit leaders are undertaking to improve the command climate and culture on the base; and how we can continue partnering together to best meet the needs of the men and women at The Great Place.

Great to attend this week’s game between the Lake Travis Cavs and the Austin High Maroons! There’s no better way to spend a Texas Friday night.
