Children’s road safety is a concern that affects the entire population. Each year, preventive actions are carried out by the gendarmes, police officers and public security assistants. In this context, the Vaudois students are met and the safety rules on the road as well as good behavior are taught to them. While these preventive actions particularly target children, the message is also addressed to parents and adults who can make the journey to school safer for their children. The aim of this awareness is to reduce road traffic around schools. This influx of traffic and maneuvers, which can be dangerous in the face of the unpredictable behavior of children, is largely due to “parent taxis” who drop off and / or collect their children when they enter and leave school.

The police are calling on parents to teach their children to walk the path that connects their home to school so that they can then walk alone. They will thus have the opportunity to put into practice the lessons learned and improve their skills in the face of traffic and its dangers. Children are also encouraged to travel on foot using the “pedibus” lines, by bicycle or by public transport. If the car should remain the only possible means, the police advise and recommend to:

– carpool;

– shift the arrival time by a few minutes (entering / leaving classes);

– promote the flow of traffic;

– use the drop-off areas and parking spaces.

From Monday, October 26 and until mid-November 2020, the gendarmes and police officers in charge of road safety, as well as the public security assistants, will ensure a visible presence around the schools. Parking discs will be given to parents reminding them of the expected good behavior in traffic or when parking near schools.
