40 units of sewing equipment have been commissioned, which will allow employing more than 80 convicts. The corresponding training is organized on the basis of a vocational school at IK-7 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory. In the Kamchatka Territory, it is one of the largest in terms of production capacity.
“We purchased some of this equipment within the framework of the federal target program, ten sewing machines were received for free use from the Government of the Kamchatka Territory for the expansion and development of the production of the penal system. This will allow us to quickly execute both commercial orders and state municipal contracts in healthcare, education and other areas. The commissioning of such a large production site solves our primary task – the employment of convicts so that they can pay alimony, claims to the victims, and ensure their maintenance in a correctional institution. The income received under the contracts is directed to the further development of production, the creation of new jobs, the improvement of the material and technical base of the institution. In particular, this money is used to improve the conditions for serving sentences: repairs in detachments, the purchase of equipment, plumbing, media equipment and other purposes, ”said Pavel Bochkova, chief engineer of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory.
The new sewing department is already fully operational. Currently, a contract has been signed with several preschool educational organizations: women will sew about 1500 sets of bed linen. At the same time, it will take them only a few days to complete such a voluminous task. This is possible not only thanks to the number of convicts involved in labor, but also to the purchased modern equipment, including sewing machines, overlocks, cutting tables, a vertical cutting machine and an embroidery machine. The latter allows you to perform delicate work, in particular the application of logos to fabric and leather products.
We add that currently in the women’s correctional colony, located in the village. Milkovo, about 150 convicts are serving their sentences. The institution, in addition to sewing, has created production sites for agriculture, washing clothes, cooking, has its own bakery, whose products are in great demand among local residents.
