Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Brian Tierney, has thanked musician Phil Coulter for joining him in a Covid-19 video appeal.
The video was shared on the Mayor’s Facebook and Twitter pages on Friday night.
“I would like to thank Phil for sparing time in his always busy schedule to join me in issuing an appeal to the people of Derry,” said Mayor Tierney.
“Phil is a world-renowned musician, songwriter and producer, amongst many other talents. He is well-respected and well-loved across the world but especially in Derry, and I know that his words hold a lot of weight with the people here – they certainly do with me.
“Phil is a passionate and loyal Derry man who has been dismayed at the number of Covid-19 cases we have been dealing with in the first few weeks of this month.
He continued: “It’s fantastic that we are now starting to move in the right direction again, and I hope that we can all draw on our famous community spirit to keep one another safe by following the public health guidelines and the NI Executive restrictions currently in place to keep dropping the numbers of cases here.
“As Phil has said himself, if we work together we can all look forward to a bright, brand new day in the town that we all love so well.”
