The senior Party official made the request at a working session with the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association and the Hanoi Urban Planning and Development Association on October 24.

Politburo member Vuong Dinh Hue said that over recent years, Hanoi Municipal Party Committee has paid much attention to directing urban planning and development but the results achieved have not been as expected.

The urbanisation rate of Hanoi has currently reached nearly 60% while the rate in some suburban districts is very low.

Urban development in Hanoi has not yet been sufficiently linked with urban economic development while the building of new-style rural areas has yet to be aligned with urban development, the official noted.

To overcome the aforementioned limitations, the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee has built a programme for its 2020-2025 tenure for urban development associated with urban economic development and a revision of policies related to urban planning and development in order to create momentum for national economic growth, Hue added.

Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association Tran Ngoc Chinh said that the fifth Congress of the association will take place in late October this year and will discuss important issues regarding Hanoi’s urban planning and development.
