The government council met today on Friday, October 23, 2020 for an extraordinary meeting. The head of the COVID special staff, the canton doctor and representatives of the health department informed about the development of the current situation in the canton of Uri. As a result of the increasing number of cases, the larger number of affected communities and institutions as well as hospitalizations, the situation-related phase changed from orange to red this week. The corona cases are currently spread across the entire canton.
The government council is in close contact with the federal government and the other cantons with regard to measures to be taken in the coming days. He wants to help ensure that uniform measures are taken nationwide, which the cantons can tighten up if necessary.
The government council appeals to the population to refrain from private celebrations and events whenever possible and to always protect themselves as best as possible. Caution is also required in the workplace and protective measures must be taken. Landammann Urban Camenzind emphasizes: “By consistently adhering to the measures prescribed by the federal government and the canton, we can all contribute to preventing a partial or complete lockdown. That must be our top priority ».
On the part of the medical professionals, people from the risk group in particular are called upon to adhere particularly strictly to hygiene and distance measures. For people from the risk group, the risk of a severe course of the corona infection is still higher. By wearing masks on a voluntary basis, using disinfectants and maintaining a distance, infection with the coronavirus can be prevented in the best possible way.
