By the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, today the newest diesel-electric submarine Volkhov was accepted into the Navy, which is the second in a series of the Admiralty Shipyards under construction for the Submarine Forces of the Russian Pacific Fleet

The solemn ceremony of raising the Andreevsky flag on the submarine and its inclusion in the Navy took place in St. Petersburg at the Admiralty Shipyards, which is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Main Command of the Navy, the leadership of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Admiralty Shipyards, design organizations, shipbuilders of the plant and veterans of the Navy, representatives of the administration of St. Petersburg and Volkhov.

On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, the ceremony participants and the crew of the Volkhov submarine were congratulated by Vice-Admiral Igor Mukhametshin, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. He voiced the salutatory speech of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, which said that “the crew has adequately fulfilled the task of ensuring all stages of testing the submarine and receiving it from the industry.”

“At present, the crew of the Volkhov submarine is faced with the task of fully integrating into the Pacific Fleet Submarine Force and serving valiantly, observing the glorious traditions of Pacific submariners. It is planned that by 2024 a series of 6 units of non-nuclear submarines of Project 636.3 will be built for the Pacific Ocean, which will raise the solution of tasks by the Pacific Fleet to a new level of efficiency in its operational area of responsibility, ”said the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

In his greeting, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov emphasized that “the Volkhov submarine has improved tactical and technical characteristics. A number of innovative solutions have been implemented in the design of this submarine, which make it even more advanced, even quieter and more secretive. The characteristics of the submarine’s key weapons and life support systems have been brought to a new qualitative level. The crew underwent training in new training programs at the Naval Training Center, and then, during the tests of the submarine, consolidated the knowledge gained in practice. The experience of the submarines of this project, which were previously built in the amount of 6 units for the Black Sea Fleet, showed their efficiency and reliability, as well as a good modernization stock. As a result, a series of non-nuclear submarines being built for the Pacific Fleet embodied the joint efforts of the Main Command of the Navy, designers and shipbuilders to further develop Project 636.3 in accordance with the dynamics of the scientific and technical process. The main command of the Russian Navy and, in particular, the Military Educational and Scientific Center of the Russian Navy, provides military and scientific support for the entire cycle of submarine development, from design to completion. “

“A series of Project 636.3 submarines, being built for the Pacific Fleet, takes into account the specifics of their operation in the Far East,” said Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

“In general, it should be noted that the Submarine Forces of the Pacific Fleet, their nuclear and non-nuclear components, are at an active stage of their development. This process will continue further, as it meets the requirements of the Navy to ensure guaranteed security from sea and ocean directions, “- summed up the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy in his congratulations to the shipbuilders of the” Admiralty Shipyards “who have built and transferred to the Navy another submarine.

Alexey Rakhmanov, President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, speaking via videoconferencing channels, told the participants of the ceremony that “the transfer of the project 636.3 Volkhov submarine to the valiant Navy is a wonderful gift from the shipbuilders – Admiralty for the upcoming holidays – the Foundation Day of the Russian Fleet (October 30) and the anniversary of the establishment Admiralty Shipyards, one of the oldest enterprises of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, which will turn 316 on November 5 ”.

“I want to emphasize the special significance of today’s event. We all know in what difficult conditions we have had to work lately. But the order was delivered ahead of schedule, 1.5 months ahead of the contract date. And this result is a real reason for pride, an example of the selfless labor of shipbuilders who flawlessly fulfilled the state defense order. The Rubin Central Design Bureau has modernized the torpedo-missile armament system, the information and control system, the radar and sonar systems. General ship systems have been improved, stealth has been increased and, importantly, the living conditions for the crew have been improved. At present, the third submarine “Magadan” is being prepared for launching, the hull of the fourth submarine, “Ufa”, is being formed. We plan to lay down the fifth by the end of the year. I would like to emphasize that today the Admiralty Shipyards are the undisputed leader in the creation of non-nuclear submarines of this class, ”said Alexey Rakhmanov.

In turn, the commander of the Volkhov submarine, Captain 3rd Rank Igor Shcherbakov, said that “the crew feels indescribable pride in the trust to serve on one of the most modern submarines of the Russian Navy and will do everything in their power to gloriously continue the traditions of Russian Submarine fleet “.

He also noted that “the crew had undergone serious training at the Naval Training Center, where the most modern training complexes were used. Subsequently, in the course of factory running and state tests, the personnel showed professionalism and knowledge of the entrusted material part. “

The Volkhov submarine was laid down in July 2017 and launched in December 2019. The first submarine, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was handed over to the Navy in November 2019. At present, two more submarines of the series – Magadan and Ufa – are being built in the shops of the Admiralty Shipyards. All three blocks of each of the ships have passed hydraulic tests. Construction of the series is proceeding on schedule and according to the contract.

Submarines of project 636.3 are among the quietest in the world and have high combat effectiveness. areas of non-nuclear submarine shipbuilding.
