Alexei Vasilyevich Kukushkin said: “I am deeply grateful to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Minister of Defense, and you for this honor given to me on behalf of our veterans. I believe that this is the merit not only of mine, but of us veterans, who recognized our work on the creation of the Airborne Forces, the leadership of their combat operations, and their development. And thank you very much for that. “
In addition, he noted: “Our troops are different now. Our troops have become completely different: high-tech, modern, perfectly trained, ready to perform any combat mission. “
In turn, the Deputy Minister congratulated the veteran on his 96th birthday and wished him long life and good health.
FOR REFERENCE: Colonel Aleksey Vasilyevich Kukushkin was born on October 23, 1924 in the village of Zayakoshie, Cherepovets District, Vologda Oblast.
In 1942, after graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Red Army and enrolled as a cadet at the Lepel Infantry School, which he graduated in 1943.
After graduation, he fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War: Western and 2nd Belorussian. He was wounded twice. Participated in the Pomeranian and Berlin operations. He graduated from the war as commander of a rifle company. After the Victory, he served in the group of forces in Germany.
From 1948 to 1951 he studied at the Military Academy. Frunze, after which he served in the Far East in the 37th Guards Airborne Corps in the airborne department of the headquarters of the Far East Military District. He was the chief of the operations department of the 98th Guards Airborne Division and served as chief of staff of the division.
Since December 1964, Alexey Vasilyevich served at the headquarters of the Airborne Forces as deputy chief of the combat training department and chief of intelligence of the Airborne Forces.
In August 1968 he took part in planning an operation to bring troops into Czechoslovakia.
December 1979 – January 1980 in the position of chief of staff of the operational group, he participated in the planning and control of the combat actions of the airborne units during the entry of troops
to Afghanistan in the Kabul operation.
For the successful fulfillment of combat missions, successes in combat training, AV Kukushkin was awarded six military orders and medals “For Courage” and “For Military Merit” and thirty medals.
Laureate of the USSR State Prize. He made 512 parachute jumps (the first – in 1952, together with the brigade commander, Hero of the Soviet Union, V.F. Margelov, who later became the commander of the Airborne Forces and the general of the army).
Alexey Vasilyevich Kukushkin served in the Armed Forces for 43 years, of which 34 he gave to the Airborne Forces.
