International cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union is one of the most promising areas in the field of industrial construction both for the domestic market and for entering foreign markets. Tigran Harutyunyan, Deputy Director of the EEC Industrial Policy Department, said this at the panel discussion “Industrial construction as a driver of economic growth”.

The event took place on October 21 in Yekaterinburg as part of the business program of the VII International Forum-Exhibition 100 + TeshnoBuild, organized by the Ministry of Construction of Russia and the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region.

“Our countries formulate long-term national plans for the industrialization of their economies with a total investment of more than $ 700 billion,” Tigran Harutyunyan said. “Industrialization covers several thousand projects in industrial, transport, energy and civil construction.”

The volume of the cross-border market for construction and engineering services in the world is estimated at more than 1 trillion US dollars (approximately 1% of world GDP). However, as Tigran Harutyunyan noted, at present, within the EAEU, the import of construction services prevails over export. So, in 2019, imports amounted to $ 5.5 billion, and exports – $ 4.8 billion. “We imported goods used in industrial construction in the amount of USD 24 billion, and exported only USD 6 billion,” said Tigran Harutyunyan.

The representative of the EEC spoke about the areas of work carried out by the Commission for the Development of Cooperation in Industrial Construction within the EAEU.

In particular, preparations are underway for the publication of two documents – a review of the largest investment projects in the EAEU member states, as well as a review of design, engineering, construction companies and suppliers of construction resources of the Union countries.

In addition, a prototype of a digital investment platform is being developed, including more than 20 thousand investment projects in industry, a forecasting and modeling system for the consumption of construction resources, as well as a digital initiative for cooperation in the field of BIM technologies.

In conclusion, Tigran Harutyunyan stressed that the states of the Eurasian Economic Union have great potential for the development of industrial construction both in the domestic market and for the development of export of construction services, and urged the participants in the discussion to more actively enter the formats of international cooperation with companies from the EAEU countries when implementing projects in the field of industrial construction.
