To intensify the dialogue that is going on between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the European Commission at the expert level, for a substantive discussion of issues of technical and customs regulation, infrastructure connectivity, the “green” agenda – especially in the context of carbon regulation in the European Union, a member of the Board (Minister) called on digital solutions for EEC Trade Andrey Slepnev.
The EEC representative spoke on October 22 at the conference “Eurasian Economic Union: Significance, Achievements, Development Prospects”, organized by the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. The event was attended by representatives of companies operating in the EAEU, as well as experts in the field of renewable energy, green investments, finance and logistics.
Andrey Slepnev highly appreciated the close and long-term cooperation with European and German business. At the same time, he noted an alarming trend: the trade of the Union with the EU was hit hardest by the current crisis: the decline was 27.6% in January-July 2020. For comparison, mutual trade within the EAEU decreased by 13.8% (with virtually stable physical volumes of supplies), with the PRC – by 6.3%.
“In these difficult times, characterized by instability and conflict, the EAEU, as a purely economic organization, once again confirms its readiness to contribute to strengthening economic ties between the two largest integration associations,” the EEC Minister for Trade said.
Andrey Slepnev expressed hope for the traditional support of the EEC initiatives from German business.
“Probably the most important question for us is our commitment to the policy of openness and the creation of new business opportunities both within the EAEU and in trade with third countries. In the current situation, when many countries are closing down and trying to stem the risks associated with international production chains, openness is a fundamental choice for us. And this is the choice that will allow us to count on growth, ”said Andrey Slepnev.
