During the visit, the representative of Nhan Dan Newspaper in Quang Binh province and a group of benefactors presented 300 gift packages, each including rice, cooking oil, soy sauce, soap, shampoo and VND150,000 in cash, to local households in order to help them overcome the severe consequences of flooding and helping them stabilise their lives.
A total of 600 textbooks were also presented to students at An Thuy 2 Elementary School on the occasion.
The same day, a total of VND300 million was donated by benefactors at a fundraising event for flood victims in central region held by Ha Nam provincial authorities. VND650 million was also raised by public servants in the locality in a similar move to share losses with people whose lives have been badly affected by the torrential rains and floods in central regions.
The money will be delivered to the Vietnam Red Cross Society to help the flood victims stabilise their lives.
In recent days, volunteer members of Bep Me Su charity group in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city have been busy making Tet cake (rice cake stuffed with mung beans and pork) to send to residents hit by the recent flooding in central provinces.
The cakes are streamed and vacuum packaged so that they can be stored for longer.
The group has sent more than 1,850 cakes and are making 5,000 others to help ease food shortages in flood-hit areas during this difficult period.
