The space center in Ramstein is an important component of a networked security architecture

Today, Thursday, the defense ministers of the 30 member states of NATO announced the construction of a “space center” in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate. The defense policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Henning Otte, explains:

“The planned NATO ‘Space Center’ in Ramstein will make an important contribution to strengthening resilience in the context of security policy. Because space has long been a dimension that has to be protected militarily.

Navigation, reconnaissance and communication are no longer conceivable today without satellites in space. Protecting this critical infrastructure is therefore an important military task.

The ‘Space Center’ in Ramstein will support NATO missions with communication and satellite images. In addition, we can work with our partners to identify threats to satellites at an early stage. In terms of an innovative and networked security architecture, the ‘Space Center’ is therefore an essential component for the security of Germany and for our alliance partners.

It is important for the Bundeswehr to be able to ensure immediate and quick access to space. The German Aerospace Center started research on this in September in Trauen, Lower Saxony. “
