On the basis of the new library, convicts of IK-29 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic can not only read literature, but also take part in organized circle work, various cultural, leisure and educational activities.
A new library has appeared in IK-29 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic. So, in the building of the former sewing workshop with an area of 39 sq.m. the premises were overhauled. Completed such types of work as redevelopment and replacement of flooring and ceiling, wall leveling, replacement of electrical wiring and lighting using new LED lamps.
The board of trustees of the colony also took a direct part in organizing the repair work, whose members ensured the acquisition of the necessary materials. The renovated library now includes a wardrobe, a bookroom and a reading room. Thus, the entire available book fund, which is more than 4700 books, is located on specially made shelves. Fiction, religious, legal and other literature is now awaiting its readers in a new, bright and cozy reading room.
“In the conditions of correctional institutions, the library is of great importance for convicts. Today, about 93% of convicted prisoners are active readers and users of the colony’s library services. Taking into account the creation of favorable conditions for reading literature, we expect an increase in the number of readers, ”said Igor Levkovsky, head of the department for educational work with convicts.
It is also worth noting that today, on the basis of the new library, circle work is already being organized, various cultural, leisure and educational activities are being held.
