Order of October 23, 2020 No. 2739-r

Order dated October 22, 2020 No. 2738-r

Bella Cherkesova will be responsible for the media industry in the status of Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. The order on her appointment was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Previously, Bella Cherkesova worked in the Presidential Administration.

By another order, Mikhail Mishustin dismissed Alexei Volin, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. He held this post since July 2012, responsible for the development of the media industry and the Internet. Under the direct supervision of Alexei Volin, a large-scale project was successfully implemented in Russia to convert analogue television broadcasting into digital format. As a result, 60 million people in Russia got access to 20 free channels in good quality instead of three. Significant results have been achieved in the fight against Internet piracy – the volume of proceeds from the sale of legal content has quadrupled. Alexey Volin was also one of the main developers of measures to support the media in the face of the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Volin was awarded the Order of Honor, the Medal of the Security Council of the Russian Federation “For Services in Ensuring National Security”.

After leaving the ministry, he will continue to work on digital development projects.
