At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia extradited Marat Romanov to Russia.

Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow, he was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraphs. “A”, “b” part 2 of Art. 172 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal banking activity). The court sentenced him to 4 years’ imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony, as well as a fine of 700,000 rubles.

The court found that from June 2012 to August 2014, Romanov, acting as part of an organized group, being on the territory of Moscow, using fictitious organizations registered to persons ignorant of the criminal intent of the organized group, carried out banking activities in violation of the requirements of the current legislation , without registration and obtaining special permission. The attacker earned at least RUB 1.5 billion from this illegal activity.

Since the offender fled from law enforcement agencies, he was put on the international wanted list.

In November 2019, in connection with the establishment of his whereabouts on the territory of Serbia, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for the extradition of the convict to foreign colleagues, which was satisfied.

Accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Marat Romanov was taken to Moscow.
