From the evening of October 22, 2020, the smartphone application aimed at breaking the chains of Covid-19 contamination “StopCovid” is updated and changes its name to “TousAntiCovid”. What’s new ? What is the purpose of this application? Is it compulsory? How does it work? What data will be transmitted? What to do in case of contact with a person who tested positive? Service-public.fr takes stock.

Set up as part of the deconfinement plan, the application was available since June 2, 2020 under the name StopCovid.

What’s new in the update

“TousAntiCovid” is an enriched and interactive version of the first “StopCovid” application. It brings the following changes:

an optimized visual environment and ergonomics with instant access to all the application’s functionalities;
an information center, which offers indicators on the epidemiological situation in France as well as news related to the fight against the epidemic (for example, the measures implemented by national and local authorities);
greater transparency with the automatic and regular publication of figures on the use of the application;
access to “DépistageCovid”, the updated map of screening centers with information on wait times reported by users;
access to “MyCovidAdvices” for personalized advice;
facilitated access to the exceptional travel certificate for areas affected by the curfew.

In the coming weeks, new features should be available.

Note: If you already have “Stop-Covid”, do not uninstall the app from your phone. The update will be done automatically from October 22, 2020.

What is the goal of TousAntiCovid?

Screening and isolating people infected with Covid-19, alerting people who have been in contact with patients is a major challenge in stopping the spread of the virus. The application initially named StopCovid was developed for this purpose: to prevent, while guaranteeing anonymity, people who have been in the vicinity of a person who tested positive for Covid-19 so that they can be tested in turn. and confine themselves if necessary.

On May 26, the National Commission for Informatics and Liberties (CNIL) issued a favorable opinion for the launch of the StopCovid application. The CNIL considers that the application is useful in terms of health and proportionate, with regard to the protection of our freedoms and our personal data.

How does the application work?

Downloading the “TousAntiCovid” application on your smartphone and using it is done on a voluntary basis. Installation is therefore not compulsory and it is free.

Once installed and activated (Bluetooth function activated and notifications accepted), the application sends an alert to users who have recently been in “prolonged” contact, less than a meter away and for at least 15 minutes, with a person having voluntarily declared having tested positive for the coronavirus.

The alerted person can then consult their doctor for a quick test, confine themselves while awaiting the results and isolate themselves if the test is positive in order to break the chains of transmission of the virus. In case of positive result , the management and the action to be taken are explained to him.

In order to protect unknown people he has encountered, a user of “TousAntiCovid” who has just tested positive for Covid-19 can voluntarily declare it in the application by entering a code transmitted by his doctor or the laboratory. An alert will then be sent to all users who have been in close contact with him in the previous days.

Data transmitted and respect for private life

The “TousAntiCovid” application uses the Bluetooth signal to detect a nearby smartphone and does not use the location of people by GPS data. It will not be able to tell where a person has gone.

The data transmitted is completely anonymous. It is not possible to know the identity of the user of the application. It does not include an authentication system at the time of installation. The “TousAntiCovid” application only generates pseudonyms that are not associated with an identified person. They are stored temporarily (15 days) on the smartphone and transmitted to other smartphones in the immediate vicinity.

The “TousAntiCovid” application is temporary, it is not intended to continue after the health crisis.
