Ireland became the first EU member country to re-introduce nationwide restrictions starting from October 21.

Canada’s total infections have exceeded 200,000 since the pandemic began in early March and the country’s second wave is expected to be worse than the first. The country announced that its border with the US would remain closed until late November.

In the meantime, Argentina is on track to become the fifth country in the world to exceed one million coronavirus cases.

Across Africa, the total number of COVID-19 cases was more than 1.64 million while the death toll is over 39,700. South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Nigeria are the worst hit countries.

According to the statistics website worldometers.info, as of October 20 evening, the world recorded 40,680,350 COVID-19 cases and the number of deaths was 1,123,470.
