October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
“For every minute in America, there are close to 20 people that fall victim to physical abuse. Unfortunately, ten million women and men are victims of domestic violence each year. With that sobering fact, I encourage everyone to lend their hearts, minds, and voices to share in the responsibility of recognizing, addressing, and preventing domestic violence. Together we can empower victims of domestic violence by ensuring that survivors and their families have access to the resources, care, and support they desperately need.”
If you or someone that you know are the victim of domestic violence, please contact Ohio Domestic Violence Awareness (ODVAN) at 800-934-9840 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE.
