Ellie Reeves MP, Labour’s Shadow Solicitor General, responding to Dame Vera Baird QC’s survey into the experience of the criminal justice system for rape victims, said:
“This survey highlights how broken our criminal justice system is under this Tory government.
“With rape prosecutions at their lowest level on record in England and Wales, we now also see that only around one in seven rape survivors feel that they have any hope of receiving justice. We are also seeing the proportion of victims’ choosing to withdraw their support for their case has almost doubled in five years. This government is letting down victims of rape on all fronts.
“More needs to be done urgently to ensure victims have faith in the criminal justice system and that it is there for them throughout.”
