Headline: Women’s progress towards gender equality stalls

Only 47% of the world’s women are employed; barely 20 are heads of state or government; only 50% can decide to use contraception or refuse to have intimate relationships; they still represent 75% of single parents; and they are still subjected to child marriage and genital mutilation. A new UN study collects dire statistics, showing that despite advances in some areas such as education, progress has stalled for a quarter of a century.
