The President of the Republic welcomed the continued proactive action of the Iraqi government. He expressed his support for the measures taken by the Iraqi Prime Minister to put an end to the unacceptable attacks that have targeted diplomatic hold in Iraq in recent weeks.

The President of the Republic welcomed the rehabilitation of the operating theater of the Sinjar health center as well as the upcoming start of construction work on a new hospital in this city. He also indicated that France will renew in 2020 its contribution to the United Nations mine action service (UNMAS) in Iraq, whose projects are making a decisive contribution to the return of displaced civilian populations to their region of origin. The President of the Republic announced that France would grant a contribution of one million euros for the benefit of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), which provides electoral assistance to Iraqi institutions with a view to ” organize the early parliamentary elections announced by the Iraqi Prime Minister.

The President of the Republic and Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi agreed to continue their efforts to mobilize Iraq’s regional and international partners in support of an initiative to support its stability and security.

The two leaders took stock of the latest advances in the Franco-Iraqi partnership. They welcomed the conclusion of a letter of intent between Alstom and the Iraqi transport ministry on the Baghdad skytrain project. They also welcomed the latest progress on projects to rehabilitate and extend the electricity network, led by General Electric France and Schneider Electric. They welcomed the signing of a letter of intent relating to Franco-Iraqi cooperation in the field of agriculture and agri-food. This visit was also an opportunity to sign a memorandum between the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and the Conference of French University Presidents with a view to developing Iraqi research capacities.
