Source: Swiss Kanton Nidwalden News in German20. October 2020The mobile pump track of the canton of Nidwalden recently changed its location for the last time this year. The system is now on the Schulhausplatz in Oberdorf. The rush was already huge in the first few days. The sports department of the canton of Nidwalden has been providing local schools with a mobile pump track system together with bicycles, kickboards, skateboards and protective equipment for almost two years. After a record of 73,432 laps had been set in Wolfenschiessen in the past few weeks, the system is now on the Schulhausplatz in Oberdorf. At a kick-off event, the teachers from the schools in Büren and Oberdorf learned how to get around on the pump track by bike, kickboard or skateboard. After just two or three rounds, the teachers were in pump track fever. In addition to personal driving pleasure, inputs on the subject of “pump tracks in lessons” were also provided. «We hope that the teachers will use this opportunity as often as possible and integrate the pump track into their lessons. The children and adolescents exercise, have fun and are safer on the bike or kickboard, ”says Philipp Hartmann, head of the Sport Nidwalden department. Philipp Hartmann says about the previous use in the different communities: “The pump track is always very popular and we get positive feedback from everywhere.” On the one hand, the safety on the handlebars should be increased for schoolchildren, and on the other hand, the benefits of such pump tracks should be demonstrated. Permanently installed systems would be an important addition to the existing sports facilities in Nidwalden. The fourth asphalted pump track is currently being built in the neighboring canton of Lucerne. Even the youngest can go round and round on the balance bike. But the grown-ups also get their money’s worth, whether on a kickboard, bike, rollerblade or skateboard. They all gain a driving experience on two or more wheels. The functioning cooperation of different age and interest groups is typical for pump track systems. Consideration and tolerance are a matter of course here, and the teachers at the Oberdorf School are also enthusiastic. «My students have been looking forward to the pump track for a long time. Some of them often cycle or mountain bike in their free time. With the pump track you now have the opportunity to get to know a new variation of cycling », says Nadja Müller, high school teacher in Oberdorf. It is clear to her that she will use the pump track in physical education classes, which is open to the public outside of school. Everyone is welcome to do their laps. Maybe the record from Wolfenschiessen will soon be a thing of the past …
