Source: Swiss Canton de Vaud – news in French

Friday, June 26, 2020, an electric pylon of a high-voltage line located in the territory of the municipality of Gland had fallen after being sabotaged. At this stage of the investigation, investigators are able to rule out the use of an explosive or a torch. The fall was intentionally caused by a mechanical process that will not be revealed at this time, for the sake of the investigation. As the pylon does not include an antenna, an act directed against the development of 5G in Switzerland seems excluded. Moreover, even if a manifesto of a political nature was found not far from the site of the sabotage, the trail of “eco-terrorism” is not yet favored by investigators.

As it stands, the perpetrator (s) have not yet been identified. The investigations entrusted to investigators and specialists from the scientific brigade of the Vaud security police, in collaboration with those of Fedpol, are continuing under the direction of the Vaud public prosecutor.

Recall of facts :

On Friday June 26, 2020, the cantonal police had been notified by motorists of the fall of an electricity pylon near the Lausanne – Geneva motorway, shortly before Gland, in the direction of Geneva. It was a pylon for the Romanel – Foretaille very high voltage line. Located at the edge of the highway, it had fortunately rolled over to the opposite side of the road, without causing significant damage or casualties. Several gendarmerie patrols and security police investigators quickly went to the scene. As the use of explosives was initially mentioned, the police were joined by two inspectors from FedPol. Motorway traffic had not suffered any inconvenience and the area had been completely cordoned off for investigation. The investigations were carried out by Fedpol and the Vaud cantonal police under the direction of the Public Ministry of the Confederation (MPC). On July 23, 2020, at the request of the MPC, the Vaud Public Prosecutor’s Office resumed the proceedings, the use of explosives having been excluded by the expertise of the Forensisches Institut (FOR) in Zurich.
