Bogotá (Oct. 20/20). With the aim of promoting interreligious dialogue between different cults and beliefs about the actions that are being undertaken in the Americas to promote religious freedom, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior will hold the Hemispheric Forum on October 22 and 23. Freedom of Religion and Beliefs, a space that reaffirms the commitment of the national government to promote multilateral strategies for the protection of religious expressions and places of worship, as part of the defense and promotion of the principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights .

During the meeting, which has among its purposes to combat discrimination and persecution because of religious beliefs and promote freedom of worship for all people, representatives of civil society, religious leaders and representatives of different religious confessions will participate as panelists. Likewise, on the second day of the event, the Ministers and Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, senior officials of the Foreign Ministries of the hemisphere, the Secretary General of the OAS and the High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations, will meet and deliberate on freedom of religion and belief.

Colombia hosts this Forum in accordance with its tradition of attachment to the freedom of religion and the free exercise of religious beliefs in the country, principles enshrined in the 1991 Political Constitution.
