Albuquerque, N.M. – Tomorrow, October 20, 2020, Congresswoman Deb Haaland, (NM-01) will hold a town hall with local advocates and trusted voices in the community on the CROWN Act of 2020, a bill Congresswoman Haaland helped lead in July of this year. New Mexico House Majority Leader Sheryl Williams Stapleton will be present to discuss the efforts to pass the Crown Act in New Mexico in the upcoming legislative session.

The CROWN Act of 2020 prohibits discrimination based on a person’s hair texture or hairstyle if that style or texture is commonly associated with a particular race or national origin. Specifically, the bill prohibits this type of discrimination against those participating in federally assisted programs, housing programs, public accommodations, and employment.
