On 19 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius received Isabelle Moret, President of the Swiss National Council, and a delegation of Swiss Parliamentarians. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, the situation in Belarus, and the European Union’s  relationship with Switzerland.

In the meeting, the Foreign Minister welcomed the excellent relations between the two countries and a great potential for cooperation in the fields of information technology (IT), cybernetics, the fight against propaganda and fake news. Linkevičius noted that the year 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Switzerland, as well as the 30th anniversary of their restoration.As regards Belarus, the Foreign Minister said that the regime continued to commit  crimes and those responsible would have to be brought to justice. Linkevičius also thanked Switzerland for joining the EU’s sanctions against 40 Belarusian officials, who were accused of election fraud and human rights violations.The National Council is the “lower chamber” of the Federal Assembly (Parliament) of Switzerland. Its members are elected every four years.
