FT. MYERS, FLA. – U.S Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.)  joined President Donald Trump in Fort Myers on Friday as he gave remarks detailing the Medicare and Social Security initiatives, his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts to lower the cost of medication for our nation’s seniors.

During a time when our seniors are increasingly vulnerable to a global pandemic, President Trump has been a warrior for them and their families,” Steube said. “From lowering healthcare costs to increasing innovation, America’s seniors now have more choices for their healthcare and lifestyle.”

Most recently, President Trump set a temporary payroll tax deferral and payroll tax holiday with an executive order. From September to December, American workers making less than $4,000 biweekly can delay paying Social Security taxes with employer agreement.

In May, President Trump also announced a new initiative to cut costs on essential medications, like insulin. Under his plan, hundreds of thousands of Medicare beneficiaries could pay as little as $35 per month for insulin. President Trump also recently celebrated the first year in 52 years where drug costs have decreased for Americans.

Aside from expanding Medicare telehealth services, the Trump Administration has also been instrumental in dropping Part D premiums. Under his leadership, Part D premiums have dropped by an average of 13.5 percent and the average Medicare Advantage has dropped by 27 percent.

At the recent House Oversight Committee hearing regarding pharmaceutical drug pricing, Steube applauded the efforts of the Trump Administration for lowering drug costs and fighting for Florida’s seniors.

With over 3.5 million Floridians are enrolled in some form of Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicare and Social Security reform have been a top priority for Steube during his time in Congress.
