The Strategic Missile Forces Military Academy hosted a memory lesson dedicated to outstanding mechanical scientists. The event was attended by representatives of the veteran organization, heads of the Department of Mechanics and Humanities Vadim Gorkunov and Viktor Berkut, cadets.
Representatives of the Council of Veterans of the Strategic Missile Forces addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. They expressed the hope that the examples of scientists who have delivered a course in theoretical mechanics will help them in the study of this subject.
The cadets prepared meaningful reports dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Semyon Mikhailovich Targ and the 115th anniversary of Nikolai Alekseevich Slezkin.
Semyon Mikhailovich Targ is a prominent mechanical scientist, teacher-methodologist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, author of numerous monographs, textbooks and teaching aids, which continue to be republished up to the present time, retaining their value and relevance.
Slezkin Nikolai Alekseevich – a scientist in the field of mechanics and a teacher of higher education. During the Great Patriotic War, Slezkin’s scientific work on the aerodynamics of high subsonic speeds played an important role in improving the wings of combat aircraft. In September 1938, he was appointed head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics of the Military Artillery Academy, in this position he worked for 19 years – until September 1, 1957. His original scientific research was devoted to various issues of hydroaeromechanics.
